How to Repot Succulents
It's not easy to say goodbye to an old plant pot, but it has to be done. You might have a succulent pot that is just too crowded with a succulent plant and its offshoots, or you may need more space for new additions. But don't worry, repotting your succulents doesn't have to be a difficult thing to do! This article will provide you with some tips on how to successfully repot your succulents and keep them happy.
Why do you need to repot succulents?
There are many reasons why one may want to repot their succulents. One reason is that the succulent plant has become overcrowded by other plants and there isn’t enough room left for the new ones coming in; another reason could be that they are taking up too much space in the pot leaving no room for any sort of growth, whether it’s leaves, stems or even the roots!
How often do succulents need to be repotted?
Succulents are a popular plant that can be found in many gardens or even homes. They're known for being low-maintenance, but there is one important thing you should know about them: when to repot succulents. As it turns out, succulents need to be transplanted quite often. If they grow too much and become too compacted over time, the leaves will start to droop and turn brown. Repotting these plants into better fitting plant pots helps provide more room for roots as well as access to sunlight so they can grow taller and fuller.
How do you repot succulents?
- Loosen the dirt around the roots of your succulent, shaking out the soil first and then gently pulling on succulent to loosen the roots.
- Remove any dead or dying leaves, and prune away any damaged stems from your plant before repotting it into a better plant pot.
- Fill in gaps around the roots with fresh soil to help prevent rot, and make sure that there is enough space between the top of your pot's drainage hole and its rim for excess water to drain out.
- Water thoroughly once you're finished replanting! Succulents are very sensitive when they're first being transplanted - don't let them dry out too much during this time period or else they'll die.
- Place your newly potted succulent in an area where it will receive bright sunlight but not direct sunlight (direct sun can burn their leaves).
- Remember to fertilise your succulents every few months with liquid fertiliser diluted at half-strength if you want long-lasting plants.
Succulents are a beautiful addition to any home or office. While succulents can grow in one pot their entire life, they still need some space to grow. You might have received a succulent wedding favour before at a wedding and taken home a beautiful potted succulent - this looks great but eventually will need to have a pot upgrade. If you want your succulent plants to look their best and have the most amount of room for growth, then it's time to take them out of that tiny container and get them into something bigger. This is an occasional task that must be done to keep your succulents healthy and happy all year round.
