Interview with a Plant Parent: Cherish

1. Tell us a little about yourself!

My name is Cherish. I’m a horticulturist and studying to be a Permaculturist. I was lucky enough to grow up very connected with nature. This has made me very passionate about sustainability and conservation. I hope to help others understand the natural world and how dependant we all are on it - we must stop taking it for granted! David Attenborough is a huge inspiration for me, my favourite quote is: "Cherish the natural world, because you’re a part of it and you depend on it".

2. What got you into the plant hobby?

Growing up surrounded by the beautiful QLD rainforest sparked an interest in plants and nature at an early age.

    3. What is your most favourite indoor plant you have at the moment?

      My variegated Monstera standleyana.

      4. What is the next indoor plant in your wishlist?

        I’d love a Hoya linearis😍

        5. Share with us one or more of your best plant care tips.

Always imagine where your plant would naturally occur, this will give you a much better chance of keeping it happy. For example, Monstera deliciosa is found climbing up trees in the understory of rainforests. This means it is an epiphytic vine that thrives in semi-shade. This tells us that it will need a totem to climb up, a well draining potting mix (allowing it to dry quickly) and a bright, shady spot.
